Got called in to the office today.
"We really like your work and no client has had anything bad to say about you ever ... but ... according to industry standards you're overpaid and your bill rate isn't high enough for us to make enough profit. Effective immediately we're cutting your pay 20% to bring you in line with what you bill now and what we think you can bill in the future. Oh, and if you would, please don't discuss this with anyone at the company. We don't want people to panic and start jumping ship."
They like me ... yeah. I've gotten nothing but perfect scores from my clients over the last 4 years and I'm treated like this. Thanks guys! Talk about not shitting where you sleep. The more I learn about business the more I'm convinced there has to be a better way than any system humanity has figured out yet.
Not to mention. It's getting increasingly hard not to turn into a knee jerk racist at work and blame the immigrant population in the office on downward wage trends. I know it's not their fault. It's the fault of the smarmy bastard in the front office and people like him.
Meh, at least I still have a job and they like my work. I'll be damned if they get anything extra out of me now though. (not the client but the consulting company)
